Overview

Patient Enrollment Specialist: The Patient Enrollment Specialist identifies eligibility and assists patients in enrolling in all funding programs for which they are eligible. Ensures that patients are assigned to the correct funding sources based on income and insurance eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with patients & their families to obtain information about their financial circumstances and informs them of the availability & eligibility requirements of various health programs, e.g., AHCCCS et al.
  • Assists patients & their families with application(s) to all possible programs for which they qualify by providing forms and assistance as needed; reviews patient documentation for accuracy; follows up with patients to ensure submission in a timely manner.
  • Obtains proof of insurance, AHCCCS coverage, or other program that will reimburse medical expenses at the clinic. Provides information to patients and their families about their financial obligations for services; obtains proof of income through verification of assets, resources, etc.
  • Reviews approval & denial notices for completed/pending applications.
  • Accurately updates Electronic Health Record as needed.
  • Provides education to patients and their families on ways to utilize the benefits available to them and strategies for self-managing these benefits.
  • Monitors all patients and families for continuous coverage in various programs; follows up to resolve coverage problems and ensures continued coverage as required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; Associate Degree preferred.
  • 2 years' insurance experience in a medical facility.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in financial screening and enrollment for benefits in programs based on eligibility, e.g., AHCCCS/CRS/DDD/ ALTCS/TPL.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills that include the ability to maintain contacts in-person, by telephone, or through email.
  • Computer proficiency is required.
  • Must receive/maintain DPS fingerprint clearance.
  • Bilingual in Spanish & English preferred
  • Superior organizational/multi-tasking skills a must.
